Small Sided Games (Learning through Play)

By Paul Cooper & Soccer Coaching International

Paul Cooper’s Learning Through Play - Small Sided Games shows you how to improve your players technique and tactics in fun, game-like situations.

This best selling and critically acclaimed book can be used for both children and adults alike.

The games work on possession, shooting, dribbling, defending from the front, winning the ball back quickly, communication, movement off the ball, building from the back, ‘vision’ and more.

The games are fully explained by Paul himself and illustrated with clear diagrams and photographs.

Small Sided Games (Learning Through Play) is a genuinely useful addition to any coaches' library.

Who is this Paul Cooper anyway?

Paul Cooper's Give Us Back Our Game (GUBOG) campaign is a powerful voice for change for youth football (soccer) in the UK.

GUBOG's aims and successes have been widely publicized in the media and have directly influenced policy makers at the English Football Association who, at long last, are recognising that the best interests of children are not necessarily served by making them play for points in adult dominated leagues.

But why do we need to give football (soccer) back to the children who play it? Surely it's their game anyway?

Paul explains:

"...the beautiful game is in decline. Football for children is now very different from earlier generations when the only adult involvement was a call from your mum that your tea was ready. Football is no longer beautiful for our kids anymore: it's ugly.

In a world where children can no longer play outside without supervision, parents and coaches have taken over. And the competitive drive adults bring to the game means youngsters no longer have time to fall in love with football, to play for fun and thus truly to develop their skills."
